Description
Magnetek DBR Features
Magnetek Dynamic Braking Resistors (DBRs) safely dissipate regenerated energy from AC and DC drives to protect equipment, improve stopping performance, and maintain precise motion control. Built around rugged grid, smooth-wound, wire-wound, or edge-wound resistor elements inside ventilated, serviceable enclosures, these DBRs are engineered for crane and hoist duty cycles and pair seamlessly with Magnetek IMPULSE variable frequency drives and braking units. Standard assemblies use corrosion-resistant stainless steel current-carrying components and mill-galvanized steel enclosures, with weatherproof options available for harsh environments.
- Proven Compatibility: Sized and validated for G+ Series 4/5 and G+ Mini traverse applications, plus VG+ Series 4/5 hoist (NLB/MLB and long-lower) — with clear tables indicating the correct DBR and required quantity per drive/HP.
- Rugged Construction: Grid or wound resistor coils with stainless steel elements, terminals, and hardware provide a durable, corrosion-resistant current path for demanding industrial duty.
- Thermal Management: Ventilated, screened covers and louvered designs promote natural convection cooling; enclosures are sized for the duty class and cycle times typical of crane and hoist service.
- Clean Integration: Factory-wired terminal blocks in dedicated compartments simplify wiring to VFD/CDBR units and help maintain lead routing away from hot elements.
- Clear Sizing Rules: Selection tables cover 230/460/575 V, traverse and hoist modes (including long-lower over 60 seconds), and show multi-unit requirements where applicable.
- Service Friendly: Removable covers and interior-accessible mounting holes streamline installation and maintenance while preserving enclosure integrity.
- Standards Aware: Installation guidance reflects NEC practices and hoist/traverse duty assumptions common to CMAA service classes.
DBR Options
- Mill Enclosure: Standard enclosed models use a galvanized steel (Mill) enclosure for durable, cost-effective protection.
- Coil Designs: Standard design contains wirewound or edgewound resistor coils to match thermal and ohmic requirements.
- Severe Duty: Grid type resistor coils available for severe duty applications requiring extra robustness and heat dissipation.
- Weatherproof Enclosures: Weatherproof louvered and stainless steel enclosure options withstand outdoor or corrosive environments while maintaining airflow.
